About two years ago, I’ve moved from a set of Armour 845 Oversize irons to a set of KZG Forged Cavity Back irons. The KZG’s were heavier and had stiffer shafts than the 845s, and I hit them quite a bit better at the time. Recently, I switched back to the 845’s as the felt more comfortable with the changes I’ve been making in my swing.
My major gripe about the 845’s is they have significant offet, particularly in the longer irons. I’ve never been comfortable with clubs that have offset, they just don’t fit my eye well. I’ve been considering re-shafting the KZG’s, but that isn’t cheap (about $250 for the set).
Last weekend, I was in Gart sports and saw a set of Adams GT Ultimate irons w/ regular flex shafts on sale for $150. I wasn’t shopping for new clubs, honest!
These are not so forgiving on mis-hit shots, but I can work the ball with them and I’m hitting them quite well. I’m hitting my 7-iron about 170-175 yards now and put a ball on the green from 230 yards out with my 4 iron on a par 5 last week.
Having equipment that fits makes a big difference, I still can’t hit the KZG’s well right now and my swing is probably the best it has ever been.
It may be time to put a set of clubs on Craigs List. 🙂

I’m really liking the Adams GT irons I picked up recently, but the grips they came with have shredded. They were standard tour velvet grips and they rubbed my fingers in a few spots. I’m having one of the kids at the club regrip them for me with …
