Easy to Use Windows Digital Photo Software?

Posted in: Photography

I need a recommendation or 6 for some easy to use Digital Photo software for Windows. I’ve got some friends and relatives that have nice digital cameras but are struggling with getting images cleaned up and into a suitable format for emailing, etc.

The software needs to do simple things like cropping, level compensation, export to standard sizes for email/web/etc. :scare: Easy to use :/scare: is the key here. Something along the lines of iPhoto for Windows. Please post suggestions in the comments. Thanks!

I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 for my Dad and if he can use it than anyone can use it. Also there is Microsoft Picture IT, but for the same price the Photoshop Elements 2 is a better deal and easier to use. I have also taught my monkey to use it, but he would rather fling poop at a wall.

    1. What about freeware IrfanView?
It is primarily viewer, but can handle more formats than I can remember, EXIF, IPTC, comments, can crop, resize&resample (including B-spline and Lancosz), handles conversions in batch + batch applying filters.
It can even handle Filter Factory 8BF filters.

IrfanView sounds very powerful, but I’m looking for something NOT powerful - something with ‘big red buttons’ that is limited in functionality but super easy to use. Gimp is definitely out. :)

The Adobe stuff for Windows, like Elements, aren’t supposed to be as good as on Mac. I’ve seen some mediocre reviews for Album (Photo Album?).

Why not just have them buy a Mac first then picking the software, iPhoto and Adobe Elements 2.0, will be easier. :)
Am also a fan of Graphic Converter for Mac, having wandered off topic…. I use Photoshop, GraphicConverter, and assorted third party plug-ins for my photo hobby.

It’s a shame Adobe can’t duplicate iPhoto although Elements and Album combined (I think) apparently come close. Dell ads for he “digital hub” break me up. This is based *solely* on independent reviews, not my experience.

And yes, I have a PC too, a high end HP workstation running WinXP Pro with Pentium 2.8 (2.7? I mostly ignore it and run SETI@home when not opening complex Office documents for review). Why people buy a cheap PC then suffer through the OS and the lousy software UI is beyond me and has been since I bought my first IBM PCs in 1981 and first Macs in 1984. Rant marring your blog content ends. Sorry. :(

No need to apologize - I have the same frustration, hence this post. From the screenshots of Adobe Album, it may be fairly close to what I’m looking for. I’ll be checking it out soon.

I’ve been using Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home Edition now 4 almost four yrs., and would recommend its version 3 & up (if any).
Very simple with a very few buttons - ideal for senior citizens as well as 4 those who can’t stand fiddling with numerous buttons. I tried many so far but no one can beat this one!

Hi, I’ve been using Adobe Photoshop 5.0 Ltd Edition for a couple of years now. Had it with a bit of kit, I find it so easy to use does everything I want without being to complicated. About the delay….I have only just come across this site.

That is exactly the reason I’m not recommending it to someone who needs a very simple program to do a few basic things.
