Mailing List and Forum Integration Progress

Posted in: alexking.org

I’ve made good progress with my forum and mailing list integration work. I’ve got the forums posting to the mailing list and I’ve got code working that retrieves e-mail from an account and posts it to the right forum. Now I just need to do some subject/thread title pattern matching and it’ll be all set.

As previously mentioned, I plan to have beta and annoucement mailing lists for each product, nicely mirrored in the forums.

I’m really pleased with how the forums are working out so far. I really like having the answers I give people out there in public so I can point related inquiries at the thread that already has the answers. :)

The workaround I’m using now is that I added my own “Forum Subscription” mod to PunBB and then created a ‘mailing list’ user whom I then subscribed to the appropriate forums. Whenever a new topic is created in those forums, it gets sent out on the list… it’s only a one-way system but it works.

Yeah, the tricky part is reading the e-mails and finding the proper thread to put the posts in.

Hi, just curious if this project is still alive? I’m very interested in this feature. Thanks. Andy.

It’s still on my list - just haven’t had time to work on it yet.

    Hi Alex,

did you complete the PunBB - Mailman integration? Are there instructions/suggestions on where to look for how to do that?

    Thanks very much,
