Harmony Remote Update

Posted in: Technology

I just got an e-mail from the Harmony folks announcing a firmware update for my Harmony remote. My only compaint about the remote had been that the battery life seemed too short and that is what this update fixes. Kudos to Harmony for fixing the problem, e-mailing me about it, and having software that made the update process very easy.

Excellent. Thanks for the heads up! I’ll have to grab this update as well. I did not receive this email however. bummer… Yeah, I’d only used mine a few times and the batteries were dead. I hope this is a good fix. Checking it out now…

Hehe…well, I paid for Tasks. Then I installed PunBB as forums on my site on your recommendation. And now I’m considering following your advice again and buying this remote.

So really, no other complaints other than the now-fixed battery life issue? Also, do you use the channel guide feature - I’m wondering just how useful that is.

I don’t actually use the channel guide feature at all because it’s easier to use the guide feature that comes with my Dish service.

My advice would be to buy it from somewhere that doesn’t have a re-stocking fee and give it a test run. :)

Yeah, that’s what I figured with the channel guide.

My only real concern at this point is whether it has enough buttons for things like the channel guide and recorded shows list on my ReplayTV and it doesn’t appear to have next and previous chapters for DVDs.

As you say the best bet is probably for me to give it a go and see if I like it.

You can reprogram any button to do what you want. You can even create labels for the six buttons up top around the LCD screen. I’ve found I can generally make it do exactly what I wanted to.

The realy joy is that I make these changes in a web page, then download the new settings and upload them to the remote via USB.
