A Good Sucker?

Dying Vacuum Cleaner + New Puppy = New Vaccuum Cleaner

I’ve done some reading at Epinions and looked at the Hoover web site, but I’m not much closer to knowing what to get.

Bagless sounds good, quiet is good, HEPA filter is good, lots of sucking power is good… Anyone out there have any recommendations?

Plain and simple. You need a Dyson. We have two dogs and two cats and it is more than enough vacuum cleaner.

The day we bought it, in the morning the wife vacuumed the living room with th eold one.
Later after we brought the Dyson home, we ran it again just for fun, and it filled the cylinder with stuff just from the living room.
Each run through successive rooms in the house filled the cylinder, I was simply floored.

It was like using a Mac for the first time.

The Dyson sounds expensive. Oreck makes fantastic products in all price ranges and styles. Give them a look too.

Another option, on the expensive but excellent line, is Miele. We’ve had one for a year now and it’s great. Expensive yes, but if you average it out over the lifetime of the thing the ease of use and quality make it worth it.

Haven’t had the opportunity to try a Dyson, but have read good things about them too.

I’ll also vouch for the Dyson. Yes, they cost more, but damn it, they’re worth everything cent. I actually don’t mind vacuuming now they’re so good.

I’d done the same thing as Thomas. Vacuumed at home, got the Dyson the next day and vacuumed the floor just for kicks and it sucked up heaps more then I had imagined was in the carpet.

I’ve had my Dyson for almost two years and it hasn’t skipped a beat. The only thing I have to do with it is occasionally wash one of the filters.

Two resorts that I know of had an Oreck vaccum contract. They had a Dyson rep come in and in 20 minutes, they had canceled their contract with Oreck.

It’s a $400 vaccum that lasts three times longer than a traditional vaccum.
Traditional vacuum cost is around (low ball) $130.
If you had to replace that vacuum every two years, over 6 years… You get the picture.

So ‘f’ Hoover - had a couple and they didn’t suck! (which is bad) - Dyson it sucks with the best of em’!!!

We’ve got a Hoover bagless upright. The model we’ve got will definitely suck the dirt and hair out of your carpets. But quiet is not a word that applies. This sucker is loud.

Another investment you should definitely consider: a steam cleaner. The first time we ever used our steamvac, we were amazed at how much filthy muck it had sucked out of our carpets (which the regular vacuum had left behind). We try to do the steamvac every month or so.

I was also going to recommend some spot cleaner/odor remover spray that we found at Home Depot, but I can’t remember the name of it. It worked great for removing some stains and pet odors when we were cleaning up our old house before we moved. If you’re interested, let me know and I can try to locate it so that I can give you the name.

Is there anything else beside Electrolux? My hearder hates the vacuum. Gets right down in the uprights face and shows his teeth and growls and barks.

dysons suck well but the attachments are a pain in the arse/ass to use, I find them a bit too chunky and basically all style not enough substance.

Personally I would recommend SEBO, the Queen uses them apparently and they’re great. They don’t look much but really who cares, it’s a vacuum, it works well and they last forever.

    Dyson - Color Me Impressed
I did a some more research after all the great suggestions people contributed and decided to go ahead and get the Dyson. Someone on Epinions mentioned that Costco had a good price on them and they were quite right - $100 less than the prices I saw else…

I have a Dyson a middle grade model for 9 months now and it has gone back twice for motor and belt problems. For the $500.00 I spent it is a great disappointment.
