Nibbling on the margins puts you squarly in the hackers camp. If you are willing to edit the code and spend a half hour or an hour learning a few things you can do just about whatever you want. It is the willingness to dive in that makes you a hacker. :)

I liked the viewpoint. It may also be worth noting that there are those of us who fall between the hacker and user camps -- comfortable nibbling at the margins of the code, but not competent to mess with the guts of it. As a WAG, I'd guess that is a reasonably high proportion of Wordpress users -- 30%? It probably will decline over time as WP gets more users.

Matt: Part of my point is that it isn't just the tags - the entire blog can be more like an app that responds to various settings.

Jesus: It's certainly for bloggers. :)

Very interesting. I have been following the hackers mailing list, and I know it is a bit difficult to decide right or left, one way or the other. However, Devs must decide if they are making WP for hackers or bloggers. I think that's the question.

Nice, we can make both happy by filling out the get_* functions and that will allow Easytags to work.

:applause: Good post.

Until your Solutions, I think my response was going to be, "WP should decide which group(s) of users it wants to work with and fork accordingly." I think this is where free/FREE software can excel---filling niches.
