I was all ready to order my new development system, but the rumored dual-core PowerMacs were conspicuous in their absense at the “one more thing” event this week. Combine that with the Dell deal being back, and I’m wondering how long I should wait before just pulling the trigger. That’s the problem with buying computers, no matter how long you wait a faster and cheaper model will be available soon enough.
The rumor sites claim that the dual-core PowerMacs are coming. I’ll wait another few weeks I guess.
Chatting with some folks from Sun at the Denver Tech Meetup yesterday has me considering the Sun Ultra 20 again too.
I wonder how I’d like running Solaris as my everyday OS.

yep, next apple event on oct 19th.
if i were in a position to buy, i’d be eyeing a G5 desktop, and letting that hold me over until the Intel laptops come out. now that i’ve gone laptop, i will never be able to go back.

I believe you can run Linux, Solaris or Windows on the Ultra 20.

The Ultra 20s look pretty good. Altho they are pretty much a standard Athlon 64 rig.
The only thing I’m wary of is does it support dual core processors ? Couldn’t see anything in the specs regarding this.
So I went for a basic DIY upgrade to my existing box. Since I know the motherboard I chose supports the X2.
