<description>Hey Alex, because we implement the feedflare items as graphical versions of text, the number of links, comments, tags, etc. can change completely and the feed or items are not marked as updated. We slot in a static image url but the image itself ("8 links from technorati", eg) can change dynamically, but the item isn't marked as updated. That's how we've iimplemented this. HOWEVER, in our initial release, one issue is that we don't allow publishers to only add FeedFlare to new items in the feed, so there is a one time "cost" to marking existing items as unread when it's added. We're addressing this in the next version and that "only add flare to future posts" should eliminate the issue completely. Congrats on all the FeedLounge progress, fun to watch.</description>

<description>Hey there Alex. I totally understand your concern, and we took great pains to make it so that items will not be marked as modified. If you look at the source code, you'll see that we actually implement each piece of FeedFlare as an img tag. That code never changes -- only the image that is returned (which looks like text) is modified. Therefore, your items will not show up as modified when the information changes.

Does that make sense? Please let me know if you'd like me to elaborate.
