“Proper Mac OS Key Shortcuts” Patch for the WP 2.x Rich Text Editor

Posted in: WordPress

As planned, I submitted a patch to fix the keyboard shortcut labels in Mac OS X for the buttons in the rich text editor control (TinyMCE) used in WP 2.x. Hopefully this or a similar solution will get landed in the core soon. The proper fix may be to introduce a “platform” framework that can be easily plugged in to the localization code.

Alex, there is a place reserved for you in Apple heaven for this. I’ll look forward to seeing it in the next rev.

I think it’s great that you did this - and someone annoying that it’s been downgraded to low priority and low importance! Guess not everyone feels the same way about cross-platform operations!

Are there instructions somewhere? I’ve downloaded the .diff file, which appears to be HTML within, but I don’t know what to do with it!

Um, Yes, I realize that this isn’t a support forum, but I just thought I’d point out that the very people who need this patch are the same ones who need easy directions to install it!

It’s nice that you did this. Thanks.

This is a patch for the WP core code, not something intended to for users to do themselves. If you can great, if not, hopefully it will be in the next release of WP.

    Mac Tooltip Patch Landed

My Mac friendly tooltips patch was blessed. The next release of WordPress should show proper shortcut keys for Mac browsers. Yay!
