Is there any software for OS X itself? I don't want to put on parallels or bootcamp... I just want it to be able to be my modem in OS X. Frustrating.

Are you using an 8703e? It works fine with an 8700g, just not that the 8703e.

I got parallels working with my bb by setting the VM to "auto activate" USB on connection and then starting the device manager first. Then and only then could I plug in the usb cable that was attached (on the other end) to my phone and the device manager would get the device attach event and start working properly. If the device is attached before device manager launches, device manager doesn't see it. If auto connect for USB is off for parallels, the Mac seems to grab hold of the device before parallels is notified (cannot manually assign theblackberry device to parallels.

Its all about sequencing...Hope this helps but I can faithfully reproduce either your problem or the successful operation just by following this sequence (or not).
