Performancing Ad Pricing Wonkiness

Posted in: Technology, alexking.org

A few days ago my Performancing Ad price was set (by their algorithm) at $257.

This morning I got 2 e-mails updating my site’s ad price.

  1. At 4:45 AM MDT an e-mail notified me that the price dropped to $107.
  2. At 4:55 AM MDT another e-mail notified me that the price dropped again to $54.

This seemed a bit odd, so I went to the Performancing web site and looked at the site details. There is a section under the price setting that says the following:

The recommended price for your blog currently based on average CPM (cost per thousand) in your category and your estimated daily traffic, is $129.83.

I reloaded the page 20 seconds later and the price dropped to $64.97.

I reloaded the page again 20 seconds later and the price jumped to $130.01.

Clearly, things are :scare: in flux :/scare: with the Performancing pricing right now. :)

While they sort this out, I’m manually setting my price to the original $257 they first determined. If When the price algorithm stabilizes, I may turn their auto-pricing back on.

Hey Alex, keep posting about this - I’m interested in seeing how this turns out for you since I’m trying the same. :)

Could it be the “below the fold” placement of the ad? I just read about it on the Performancing page and thought of your little problem.

Yesterday I was considering buying an ad on your site. I did not do it because my ad looked extremely bad. So I’m thinking of trying ad words instead since that has a better position, costs much less and I can stop if I do not get the required results.

Today I go back to perfomancing and the price which was $56 is now $86. This seems rather bad for you the publisher? If I can come in on a Sunday or Monday when the matrix is showing lower visits I can get a cheap price. Assuming I can get you to accept the ad at that price, I will be paying for weekend traffic rather than real traffic counts.

The ads are going to be moved around a little in the new site design - you should probably hold off for now.

I thought I’d fixed the price to the $256 number they originally gave me - not sure why you were getting those prices.

So far, I’m trying to keep an open mind as to how the Performancing Ads will work when they finally launch. If they aren’t good, they won’t stay.

Ok, the new design is stable and the ads are pretty well set right now.

FYI: Your monthly price was much to high for me, but I am starting to show up on your site via Google Ads.

I removed the Performancing ads because I felt they were too obtrusive for the price.
