For now, at least, I've made the home page feed the blog feed. Additional input and suggestions welcome.

Thanks, but I already knew what the question was. ;)

The blog feed now contains the news feed items as well, and the blog also contains information about my projects. I'm not sure it's an either/or situation.

It depends on the relationship between the blog and the website. Is the blog the main content of the site? Is it what drives it, makes it meaningful, and the reason people are going to the site? Or, do people go to the site because they're looking for you or your products, and the blog is simply a part of it - of interest to many visitors, but not all.

In other words, what will people expect when they hit that feed button from the home page? Essentially, the content of the default feed should reflect the content of the page on which it appears. Figure out that mix, and make your default feed represent it.

That may work out to the main blog feed, the news topic feed, or maybe something different. You may want to create a topic called "homepage" and have the default homepage feed be based on that. Or maybe the feed could contain all items in the category "news" or "homepage".
