Link Harvest 1.0 Beta

Posted in: News, WordPress

I’ve checked a beta version of my Link Harvest plugin (see it in action on my Links page) for WordPress into the WP Plugins SVN repository. There are no installation instructions or README yet. This was actually already written, but was lost in my hard drive snafu a few weeks back. That data is being recovered and should be back to me soon, and I don’t care to re-create it if I don’t have to.

So this is a beta release for the experienced, the brave, the risk-takers, the thrill-seekers and the do-it-yourselfers. A full release for everyone with a nice README, etc. will be available as soon as I get my data back.

UPDATE: Based on what I’m seeing in e-mail and in the comments I think doing this release was a mistake - please wait for a real release before using this.

You could change “Show Links” and “Show Posts” to “Hide Links” and “Hide Posts” when clicked (instead of a “Close” button - it’s even hard to see!). Except that, that’s a nice plugin. Really nice.

To do that would require bloating the page with additional in-page elements. I might still add it before a full release.

    Hi,

Does this plugin work with WP 1.5? I installed it, but when I click “Harvest Links,” nothing happens.

Works pretty well right outta the box. I’m currently using the list version on my sight because the ajax action in the table version wasn’t working. I noticed the plugin calls for wp-ajax-js.php, which I don’t have on my server. I found what I thought was a copy of it but it didn’t work.

So I’ll wait for the release and see if the instructions help.

    Thanks, Alex!

Jonathan Dingman has a valid point there….

Maybe I am missing something very obvious, but what does this plug-in actually do?

    Thanks for posting this Alex.

Is the prototype.js file different than the one I installed with ‘Share This’? I’m guessing I’m missing something because my ’show links’ and ’show posts’ are not working.

Take your time. I know you have other headaches right now.

I installed this plugin on my Wordpress Blog and trying to get it to harvest the links nothing works at all.

I have the beta version of 2.0.6 RC and it doesn’t work there or on the 2.0.5 version either.

    Am i missing something ?

    John and Woordenaar,

My earlier post reported the same problem you guys did (although yours was much clearer). I have done some trouble shooting and have been able to get Link Harvest to work correctly.

I chose to create my Links page by creating its own template (I use Dreamweaver for my web development stuff) and then create a page in WordPress using that template.

Because the links were working correctly in the Admin panel but not the blog, I took a look at the source code and came across this line:

    .

I placed that line in my link harvest template and all works as designed now.
