Haha, yes, Raving Rabbids is definately a must-buy!
Watch your arms when playing tennis, if you're not used to it, you'll feel what I'm talking about the next day :D

Also, CoD3 is a good buy to see how different FPS can be on consoles. It's a great example for using the Wiimote.

You dont need to buy WiiPlay. Although it does include table tennis, it's just nothing more than an educational game for kids/older ppl to get used to the Wiimote.

Ah, and get Opera for the Wii. It owns pretty much, however has some drawbacks. But surfing the web works really well with it.

If you like party games, get 4 controllers (with nunchucks) and Rayman's Raving Rabbits. The game feels like it was designed by people on lsd, but it is very fun :).

Oh, also, in reading back to your GBA post - definitely steer clear of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It's a great game, but it's definitely not something you can eat in 5-10 minute bites, and it doesn't really sound like your cup of tea.

You could also look into the Virtual Console stuff - for anywhere from $5-10, you can download old titles for the NES, SNES, N64, TurboGrafx 16, and Sega Genesis. There's some old games that have fast pick-up play, like Donkey Kong. I think their store design is kind of bad, in the sense that you can't easily add points at the time of selecting a game (you have to have already purchased them), but there's over 40 choices so far, with weekly updates on Mondays.

Also, you can get the Opera browser in the Wii Shop channel. It's a fun toy to be able to watch YouTube and such on the TV, but it's not really a long-term browsing solution. I've taken to the habit of tagging things on del.icio.us with the tag "wiilink", and then I bookmarked http://del.icio.us/brianarn/wiilink on the Opera browser, so it's easy to get to stuff.

http://www.teknision.com/wii/ is a neat Wii-specific site to stream music. Not necessarily the best solution, but neat nonetheless.

http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com and http://www.playwii.com make for relatively low volume news sites that coalesce Wii news from around the web rather nicely.

If you're connecting it to the net via wifi and having issues, sometimes setting your router to use channel 1 or 11 sometimes helps. It helped mine be a bit more stable (I was on 6).

Also, since I know you're a golfer, you should be warned that Wii Sports Golf, while fun, is probably one of the less stable games in the set, in the sense that motion tracking is a little off at points. I find that sometimes it's useful to lift the remote and wait for the avatar on screen to mimic my move before I actually swing. Also, putting can be a little weird, and I've found that I tend to do less movement than I would with a real putt, and much more swing with simple wrist motion. It seems to register the swing based in part on the rotation of the remote more than just movement.

It's really a blast. Everything is fun. :) I also highly recommend renting games before buying, just to be safe. I've heard that Super Swing Golf (the only other golf option) is pretty bad, but that Tiger Woods is shaping up nicely and will be out soon. Also, I find that I've really enjoyed Excite Truck, because it's not a standard racer, but I know that turns others off. WarioWare: Smooth Moves is wacky but can be quite amusing as well.

Enjoy! :) I've had one since release, and also do game review on the side for a small gaming news site, so I'm happy to talk shop about the Wii.

I'm not a gamer either, but also got a Wii because of its interactivity totally different approach to gaming. Not sure I have any "tips" for you, but I'll make the following observations:
- if your cursor seems to vibrate on the screen, even though your hands are not, then change the sensitivity settings for the controls.
- the news channel won't be active until 1/27
- when bowling, swing the ball backwards towards the crowd behind you.
- make sure to check out the "training" area on Wii Sports, it rocks!
- if you have friends that are also Wii owners make sure to add them to your contact list (address book) for messaging and Mii (you'll soon know what those are) interaction with your console. If you do this make sure to set your Mii to "roam."
