Post the rates in plain view on the site BIG AND BOLD. You won't get near the requests you get now ;-)

I think this would be great, varied experience for an intern. I’d like to bring on a Soph. or Jr. in college then after the first year or so, promote them into a paid position.

In this context, it would seem to have been a valid assumption, and in many other contexts as well. The tendency you have to jump on people for not reading, believe me, I've learned to check my facts before commenting on your blog... :\

(Wasn't there just a movie with Will Smith where he suddenly found out that the internship he was accepted into was a non-paying job?)

I'm still curious how all that turned out, since I haven't seen you mention it...

Once again, Meller jumps in with points based on false assumptions: "intern" does not mean "not paid".

Hmm... what were they before? For some reason I thought you were at $200/hour...

I wasn't reading your blog back at the very beginning of '05, but to my knowledge I've never heard you mention the intern (nor do I see anything right off in the archives). What happened with that? Not enough interest / qualified candidates?

Personally I think the whole internship thing is a bit of a ripoff. Just because they don't have "experience", they don't deserve to get paid for their work like the rest of the world?

Maybe you'd have better luck actually hiring someone like that (obviously not for anywhere near what you're charging clients) to handle some of the more menial tasks. Think somewhere between having a personal secretary and a junior developer... :P
