The modern os-based application development process:

1. Create a nice standards-compliant application on your platform of choice.
2. Test.
3. Release.

(well ok, obviously it’s not quite that clean, but … nonetheless *much* less frustrating.)

According to Wikipedia, IE 5.x and lower is less than .7% marketshare. You have to cut the cord sometime.

Sorry, my message got cut off after I used the “smaller than”-symbol.
I meant IE smaller than 6, e.g. IE 5.5. and 5.
I’m still testing on these ones because sometimes it really looks horribly wrong and broken in these browsers.

Yeah, usually IE7 almost works well for me after building for Firefox/Safari.

I make my IE changes in override stylesheets, so they never break Firefox.

Step 1. Design by viewing in Firefox
Step 2. Fix bugs in IE7
Step 3. Fix bugs in IE6
Step 4. Fix new bugs that appear in Firefox after fixing them for IE6 & 7
Step 5. Repeat Endlessly.

2. Put a best viewed in FireFox banner on your site

At least IE7 isn’t quite as bad as IE6… Most IE6 fixes (CSS-wise, anyways) tend to sort out IE7, thankfully.
