This is why we’re fat →

Portion sizes have been growing. So have we. The average restaurant meal today is more than four times larger than in the 1950s. And adults are, on average, 26 pounds heavier. If we want to eat healthy, there are a few things we can do for ourselves and our community: Order the smaller meals on the menu, split a meal with a friend, or, eat half and take the rest home.

Portion control (along with changing some of the foods I eat) has been one of the keys for me to lose weight and keep it off. Cutting the portions in half at the beginning of the meal and planning to take the other half home are definitely good ways to think about this. Combine with this eating more slowly and/or giving yourself a break so that you can start to feel full, and all of a sudden the portions you are served most of the time seem crazy.

(thanks Jim)
