Sorry, but not terribly surprised, to see FeedLounge shutting it’s doors for good. It’s a shame, there was a lot of really great stuff in FeedLounge.

As posted on the FeedLounge blog, I’ve left FeedLounge. Here are the quick bits: Last Wednesday, I sold my share of the company to Scott and he is continuing to run the service. I am no longer involved in anything FeedLounge related (except in a historical sense). Scott and I don’t hate each other and…

In our early alpha of FeedLounge we had implemented auto-complete for tags – similar to what you see in the Gmail “to” field and in Google Suggest. I now have the same functionality need for the tagging coming in the next release of Tasks Pro™ and Tasks. We ended up ripping it out because the…

From some of the comments on my previous post, I think I haven’t done a very good job explaining what happened and the nature of how this has affected FeedLounge. I’ll try to do this here, in the form of an O’Grady-style Q & A. Are you telling me your server literally burned up? Yes,…

Last night (actually early this morning) the FeedLounge queue slowed down quite a bit and, of course, some of the users noticed (everything was back to normal by late this morning). As I noted in the forum thread, this is the only time in the last month this has happened, and I’m pretty sure1 it’s…

We’ve released APIs for FeedLounge. I’m looking forward to see what people do with these, and which APIs are requested next. This also knocked 2 highly ranked items off our feature voting list. Progress is good.

I did an e-mail interview about FeedLounge (mainly focused on our business model) for Basement.org.

I took part in a feed reader roundtable conversation for a TalkCrunch podcast today. It should be available tomorrow evening or soon thereafter. This was my first podcast, I think I probably stumbled on my words more than you’re supposed to – oh well.

We’ve added some great new features to FeedLounge in the SOG release: The ability to pass your FeedLounge item tags on to del.icio.us with TagThru™. The ability to sort items from oldest to newest. We’ve also upped the 3 hour tour to a 24 hour tour – check it out.

FeedLounge was included in a web-based feed reader roundup on TechCrunch. There were a couple of minor errors in the FeedLounge column of the chart, but I’m sure they’ll be fixed. We should be able to add a couple more marks next to items in our column pretty soon as well. It’s nice to be…

Yesterday WordPress version 2.0.2 was released, fixing several security issues. If you haven’t upgraded already, you should go do so. I spent most of my Friday upgrading WordPress installations (this blog, my Golf blog, the FeedLounge site and the King Design site). For the most part, everything went smoothly – however there were a few…

It looks like the host for feedlounge.com has gone away for the moment. Hopefully it will be back soon. FeedLounge itself is still up and running. If you’re a FeedLounge customer, you can get in by going directly to http://my.feedlounge.com/. UPDATE: We’re back up.

I did a little cleanup on the OPML generated by FeedLounge today. The old OPML was basically the result of copying examples found in the wild, so I went through the necessary steps validating the output, reading the specs, and double-checking what I was seeing against NetNewsWire’s output. I fixed most of the issues, but…

Day 2 of Mashup Camp was a little more informal (if that’s possible) than day 1 – it was quite interesting to see everyone’s creations in action and discuss various development challenges with them. Special thanks to: my travel partner Steve, Adam, DeWitt, Anil, Niall, Davey, Tim and everyone else I had the pleasure of…

Mashup Camp is my first “unconference” experience – it’s been quite interesting. The basic theory is to get a bunch of people together and let them geek out in loose groups on various topics, with little to no structure. It worked surprisingly well – Steve was impressed as well. The sessions I attended today: API…

I’m back in the Bay Area again for a couple of days to attend Mashup Camp. I’m quite looking forward to it. Note to self: if you played doubles volleyball earlier in the day, remember to ice your knees before getting on a plane. Overheard on the plane, producing some snickering from Steve and myself:…

FeedLounge was down for about 20 hours last week while we upgraded the back-end systems to roll out a huge performance improvement. This, naturally, generated some unrest amongst our users. After Scott and I got some rest and discussed the matter, I posted a lengthy response in the thread.

In the last few days, we’ve been able to fix a couple of bugs within 24 hours of the bug report1. The users notice. This is a good thing all around. No matter how long you test a product, actually letting it loose in the wild will always give you a flurry of strange and…

My last project for Eric was building a system for him to run a weekly photo competition on Wetpixel.com. This turned out to be a bit larger project than we thought, but we also added a bit more to the system than we’d originally planned. Using the admin interface, Eric and the other Wetpixel admins…

I implemented resizable panes in FeedLounge this afternoon. Everything went rather smoothly (I’d prototyped it in the San Jose Airport and on the plane last month), until I found one very strange issue in IE. When I resized the vertically separated panes, they would only go in one direction. Moving the bar down worked fine,…

We’ve pushed a bunch of new features out in FeedLounge tonight. Funny, the feature list doesn’t look any shorter though.

You can now take a free 3 Hour Tour of FeedLounge. Go check it out if you haven’t already.
-
FeedLounge is now open for business. Whew!

I started using del.icio.us to keep track of FeedLounge mentions, in case anyone else wants to see what the blogosphere is saying as they wait for Monday’s release. If you see mentions I’ve missed, add a ‘feedlounge’ tag to them and I’ll pick them up on the main feed from del.icio.us/tag/feedlounge.

We’ve announced the pricing for FeedLounge during the beta release.
