It may not be true that 80% of success is just showing up, but not showing up will prevent success 100% of the time.

Just learned there are people out there that don’t use the “week starts on Monday” calendar view. Savages.

I’ve trimmed my draft blog post list for https://alexking.org down to 99 – I think I’ll start calling them “problems”.

The Panasonic 20mm f1.7 pancake lens is my everyday lens, and I also have the Olympus 45mm f1.8 that they recommend as a portrait lens. I’m actually quite happy with the nice small body, the two fast lenses and little to no complications or fuss.

More than a little overdue, but better late than never – here are some photos from WordCamp Miami 2014. The full set is up on Flickr.

This is definitely more than a little appealing. Unfortunately:
1. It’s not shipping (yet)
2. It doesn’t have a way of receiving notificationsI’d love to stop carrying a separate Fitbit and watch. My experience with the Pebble has shown me that being able to see notifications without pulling my phone out of my pocket is actually a nice feature.

I’m tempted by the 360, but I think I’ll probably pass on it – at least for now. That’s assuming people will figure a way to hack iOS support into is pretty quickly, otherwise it’s a non-starter for me.

Photo backup and storage: still hard. i will detail my set-up in a future post.

Yesterday I watched a colleague’s Sublime Text 2 crash repeatedly as he tried to navigate the search results in a large project. BBEdit‘s search (and edit in the results window) feature is a part of my normal development process. I think it crashed on me once about 8 years ago.

I’m a big fan of good interviewers, so I was thrilled when Richard Banfield (CEO of Fresh Tilled Soil) asked me to sit down with him for his series on digital design leadership.
Richard asks some good probing questions about my experience in growing the team at Crowd Favorite, how I approach challenges, and our transition into the larger and more distributed post-merger company. I hope you enjoy it!
Runtime: ~19 minutes – and there is a text transcript!
