  1. Two Months of Snow Later…

I got to go hit balls at the range (off mats) today as enough snow finally melted for my course to open up the range – my first real swings of 2007 and first since Thanksgiving last year. Hopefully the weather will hold this week and the course will open up again. I’ve got 2…

  2. Goals for 2007

My golf goals for 2007: Bring my average putts per round down to 30. Bring my handicap down to 7. My guess is that by meeting the first, I’ll also meet the second. 🙂

  3. 2006 Goal Reached

My goal for 2006 was to bring my handicap into single digits. Some great spring and early summer rounds brought it down to 8, but mid-season swing changes caused some inconsistency and it went back up to 11 in the fall. I thought I’d missed my mark, but a few good rounds (81, 80, 82)…

  4. “Lost” Putter

Just to mix things up a little I decided to use a different putter (an old 34″ TearDrop) yesterday instead of the 35″ Mizuno TP Mills Workshop IV putter I’ve used for the last 4 years. I left the Mizuno in the car, but it was gone when I got back. 🙁 UPDATE: the Mizuno…

  5. Back on Track

After playing the best golf of my life at the beginning of the summer, I completely lost it for about a month. My scores were getting back into the 90’s and it wasn’t much fun. My main problem was a hook I’d developed with my long irons and driver. I just couldn’t keep the ball…

  6. Playing it safe off the tee

I’ve discovered that no matter what club I hit off the tee, the difference between a good tee shot and a bad tee shot is simply a good swing or a bad swing. I can make a bad swing with a fairway wood, hybrid or iron just as easily as I can with my driver.

  7. Seventy Six

After breaking 80 for the first time with a 79 on Saturday, I managed a 76 on Sunday at Riverdale Dunes. I actually limped home with bogeys on 3 of the last 4 holes, and had a horrible putting day with 34 putts (could not read those greens at all). But I drove the green…

  8. Seventy Nine

I broke 80 for the first time today, shooting 79 at Legacy Ridge. 🙂 I shot 39 on the front with a birdie and two penalty strokes, and a 40 on the back with a bogey on 18 after a bad drive and some tree trouble. I had only a single double-bogey on the round…

  9. Goal for 2006

My goal for 2006 in golf – bring my handicap down to single digits. I didn’t play as much as I’d have liked in 2005, but hopefully I’ll find more time to swing the sticks in ’06.

  10. 40 for 9

I’m starting to shoot 40 or lower for 9 holes on a semi-regular basis now. My last three 9 hole rounds I’ve shot 38, 40, 39. The main issue I’ve got is still losing the driver way right at times when I don’t get my right shoulder through. The other problem I’ve been having is…

  11. Golf is a Funny Sport

Overheard at the pro shop while I was checking in for my round: I’m kind of scared to go out and play again, I played so well last time I played. I’ve felt that way before too – but only with golf, never with another sport.

  12. Winter Golf in Denver

It snowed on Sunday night, but it all melted in a few days and the golf course was open again yesterday. I talked to the pro I take lessons from and he said that’s how it will go all winter. Sounds good to me. It was so gorgeous today I had to hit a few…

  13. Good Lesson

I had a pre-vacation tune-up lesson today. The pro said: Looks like you’re doing everything we worked on last week. I don’t want to mess with anything. How about that? The main thing I’m doing now is getting my hands out in front better and releasing hard with my top hand. Now if I can…

  14. 220 yard 7-iron

Hole 18 at the Homestead at Fox Hollow is a 199 yard par three with an elevated tee box and a slightly elevated green. With the in the back, it was playing 217 yards (a guy in our group had a rangefinder). We had moderate wind at our back, and after factoring in a the…
