Last summer I e-mailed a friend to let him know that the write up we were working on just didn’t have enough juice in it. His reply was something along the lines of:

You’re right, it lacks cowbell.

Though I wasn’t familiar with the phrase, I knew exactly what he meant.

Fast forward to this week.

I was eating dinner with some friends here in the Bay Area, and one of them mentioned something “needing more cowbell”. I kind of laughed to myself remembering the reference, then asked where the phrase was from.

I got the full explanation from him, complete with as much re-enactment one can do while sitting in a restaurant, and later that night we found the clip online and everything came full circle to me. At least, as far as I know. 🙂
