And The Royals Keep Winning…

I don’t know what happened, but somehow the Kansas City Royals didn’t get the memo that they were supposed to be swooning and falling out of the AL Central race right about now. I’ve got a high stakes bet (2 lunches!) with a buddy of mine that they will 1) fall apart and finish under .500 and 2) finish in 3rd place or worse in the AL Central standings.

Maybe the memo got screwed up in the mail and was delivered to the Twins and the White Sox instead. Lately, the Royals have been winning and the Twins have been losing – a combination that has (not surprisingly) moved the Royals back into first place ahead of the stinkin-it-up Twins.

While the Royals beat the Angels last night, the Twins lost to the bottom-dwelling-Rangers and the White Sox lost to the even-more-bottom-dwelling-Tigers… c’mon guys, get it in gear. Oh, and did I mention that all of this is with their team captain and best hitter (Mike Sweeney) on the disabled list? I don’t imagine getting Sweeney back after the All-Star break is going to make their team worse either…

On an unrelated note, Barry Zito was shelled by the Devil Rays last night – yes the same Devil Rays that are 22 1/2 games out of first place in the AL East. Weird things happen in baseball sometimes.
