I have to agree with you on your Joel Spolsky note. I have been a student of usability for about a year now (I have read through a lot of Joel’s Essays and I really admire his work and style) and have been trying to get some research going on usability metrics on the side at school. Another good place to read through is http://www.uiweb.com I am also trying to push usability abstracts into WordPress (albeit in my own convoluted, twisted way!)
