I was reading this article on making forms accessible when I discovered the <optgroup> tag. I’ve never seen this tag before – it seems to work great in Safari but is ignored in Mozilla. Anyone have any real-world experience using it?

What do you mean by “ignored in Mozilla”? I don’t know exactly what it is supposed to do (since this is the first time I’ve heard of it), but in Mozilla on the PC it seems to work fine for me.
You’re right, it works in Mozilla Firebird but not in Camino. Weird.
In Moz. Firebird and Safari (on the Mac), it shows the drop down list with headings and indented items. In IE (Mac) is displays as hierarchical menu’ed list. In Camino, it just shows the options and ignores the optgroups entirely.
New Tag?Alex seems to have found an HTML tag that does optiongroups…interesting at the least.
Seems not to work anymore in Safari 1.2 — what a shame. IE5 – all standard disclaimers – has a different take on optgroup that is pretty nice.
The labels are still visible for me in Safari 1.2, but there is no visual indication they aren’t just ‘option’s. You don’t find out until you try to select one. 🙁
