I’d like to start building a list of web hosting companies that have their servers configured properly to use all the features of my Tasks Pro™ and Tasks software.
The Server Check file tests for the most common configuration problems, but there is no substitute for running the software. I’d love links to hosts you guys are using the software on.
UPDATE: Please only post a recommendation if you’ve successfully used the iCalendar (the display in PHP iCalendar is fine) and/or the RSS feeds.
This post is part of the project: Tasks Pro™. View the project timeline for more context on this post.
I’m runing Tasks 2.1.2 on TextDrive and have previously run it on Host Department.
I’m on Pair.com and Tasks works great. The PHP iCalendar works just fine…and iCal subscription is not an issue.
Tasks Pro works great at Austin Web Development
Alex King’s got a great idea. I just went for the cheapest server that’d run PHP and MySQL. I found out later that it’s configuration wouldn’t let me run Gallery. q:o(
While lists like this would be great to see for all the worthy projects out there, perhaps it would rather be in the best interests of the hosting companies to advertise their support for the projects people want to use. When I tried to contact my hosting company about support for Gallery, I got an email saying they didn’t understand – and nothing more! I may start hosting from the server we have running in the study next (read: excuse for UPS).
Pingback didn’t work.
I’ve got it running great on my own leased dedicated box … I’d host anyone who’d want it for a minimal monthly fee.
Another happy TextDrive customer. – James
I run a small hosting company and use tasks. I LOVE IT and I appreciate all of the work that Alex has put into this software. I have been running tasks in one form or another for around 6 months.
PS. I also have working installations of Gallery 1.4.4 on my server. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in getting something set up.
PPS. The URL for the hosting company is http://www.tm-web.com and my email is mike@tm-web.com.
We LOVE TasksPro.
It’s a kick-butt product that saves us a tremendous amount of time.
Anyone that wants to run it on our servers is more than welcome.
We will be testing it on Blogomania.com tonight and I will post the results; other PHP based software packages like Gallery and WordPress run fabulously on our servers. Matter of fact, WordPress can be installed from Fantastico and just takes a few minutes. Zoooooom! (I love WordPress.)
Just thought I’d mention, textdrive may not necessarily have PHP 4 as a module available – at least not on the server I am on.
I actually spoke to them about this a few months back – I think they have it but you need to ask for it (or something like that).
Know When to Fold ‘Em
Each release of Tasks Pro™ and Tasks 2.x up until this point have used 401 (Basic) authentication to secure the RSS Feeds and iCalendars. The main reason for the use of 401 authentication here is because this is what the software that consumes th…
It runs on everything FireBright has ever offered.
I’ve checked it out, and instead of talking about Hosting companies, I tried installing tasks (not pro, don’t have licenses for testing!) on a couple of different hosting automation platforms.
I know that it works on:
– Ensim Pro 4.x
– Plesk 6
– Plesk 7
– HSP Complete 3.x with Virtuozzo
I’ve seen it run on cpanel servers, though I don’t have one to test on. Still, more hosting companies use one of these platforms. The requirements for the software are actually quite modest.
The only thing I would make sure about is CRON support. Not everyone offers that, and that the time is set properly. So many servers are screwed up time-wise.
That’s it! Best of luck! Happy hunting!
Jonathan
If you haven’t run the Server Check script, don’t claim that it will work…
We just started using tasks pro internally here. All of our shared unix hosting account support this software without any problem at all. 🙂
Say you saw it here and we’ll give you 10% off.
We’ll help install it if you you like.
Great software Alex!
