I guess I figured out why some people I know send their mailing list e-mails to a separate mailbox or folder. I reached the point this week where the constant new mail interruption was getting annoying.
Side note: mail clients that support threading by subject are great since you can delete an entire thread you don’t care about with a single click. 🙂
I have been doing this for quite a while. I have one account that is intended for colleagues, family and friends, one which is public and one for mailing lists. Also, you can have a catch-all account, then give different people different E-mail addresses, and if one account gets abused, you separate it out by instantiating it.
Exactly. That’s one reason that Forté long ago supported POP and IMAP, because people wanted software with which they were familiar to manage mailing lists. If I were on any lists anymore—I’m not, for reasons of time and interest and availability—I would probably use it or something similar.

I’ve had several friends and family members recently ask me what to do about the flood of spam they receive in their e-mail. Here is my advice: don’t let the spammers get your e-mail address. 🙂
To that end, everyone needs (at least) three e-mail …
