I’ve done a few searches and looked through the preference, but I can’t figure out how to set a default alarm (10 minutes before) for appointments in iCal. Is it possible? Anyone know how to do this?
I guess one solution

I haven’t figured this out, either, and have wanted it. Please update if you figure it out!
The closest iCal comes is keeping the five most recently set alarm settings in the alarm pop-up menu of the Info Panel. If you’re mostly doing the 10 minutes, it’ll almost always be there.
The other thing I want to do with iCal: change/add a couple of options to the snooze function. Why the jump from 5 minutes to 1 hour? That’s crazy…
Looks like even in the latest version of iCal, 2.0.2 found in OS X Tiger 10.4.x, there’s still no way to set a default alarm. I would have thought this was a commonly requested feature, hmm… If anyone figures out a workaround please post it here!!
A guy named Robert Blum has come up with a little fix for this. See his web page at http://www.robertblu[...]-better-ical
It works! You must install a little input manager utility called SIMBL, which is linked-to on the web site, and you have to edit a property list file to change the setting.
