ShareThis version 2.1 is now available for download. I’ve been running version 2.1 on this site for a little while now without incident – it’s working nicely.
This new release adds several often requested features, and fixes a couple of issues:
- You can now use a template tag to explicitly add ShareThis to your theme wherever you want it to appear.
- There are now separate settings for adding ShareThis to posts and pages automatically. For example, if you want, you can set up a template tag for where ShareThis appears in posts, and let it auto-add to pages.
- The JavaScript code inserted into the page header is now XHTML compliant.
- There was a conflict with the Prototype JavaScript library that has been fixed.
- Changes were made to better handle other plugins that futz around with the priority of the default WordPress filters. We can’t cover 100% of these situations, but we should be in good shape for the vast majority of them.
- Fixed a bug where activating any plugin would cause ShareThis 2.1b1 to forget the options you had chosen and revert to defaults.
Also, we’ve launched new support forums, so that’s the best place to report issues and request features moving forward. By posting issues in the ShareThis forums, they will receive attention ASAP.
Out of curiosity, any plans on fixing it so the popup box shrinks to the size of the sites listed? Even on this page you have 8 sites listed to share on, but enough room in the box for three times that amount.
That being said, I really enjoy this plugin. Thanks for creating and updating it!
Alex, support isn’t working. I’ve managed to get “Classic” to run fine on my site, but the regular version is totally unusable. Can’t even get my sidebar to display, even without copying the javascript code from the site.
Support has never contacted me, even though I’ve mentioned this problem on your blog and file a request in the support forum.
I want to use the regular version, but I can’t unless I get assistance.
Peace,
Gene
Great to see the update, Alex. Right now I am using some homespun code because I wanted to ensure each social site is nofollowed. I could not figure how to get nofollows with Share This … does this version support? Also, I like Twitter Tools A LOT, but would like to ensure it is nofollowed as well … simple to do, or difficult?
Thanks again for continuously improving already great products!
Is this good on any version of WordPress?
I like the idea of ShareThis 2.1, but it takes forever for the box to load (even if I visit the same page). So, I’m still running ShareThis classic without the tracking. 🙁
Erik– there are several ideas being discussed around this issue, I don’t care for the extra space either.
Gene– I apologize that no one has gotten back to you. If you’d be willing to open a support thread in the new forums and send me the URL, I will follow up on it personally.
Bruce– The links don’t need to be ‘nofollow’ed because they don’t exist in the page (they are created in an IFRAME on user click).
Missy– Per the README, it works on WP 1.5-2.3.x
Jessica– That’s a valid concern, and one being discussed quite a bit. I’ll note your comment to the team, and would encourage you to open a thread in the ShareThis forums to start a discussion on it there.
i havent tried it, but may I ask about the Register/sign-in feature? Can I disable it?
Hey thanks a ton for this update, your plugin is pretty cool indeed. Thanks a lot!
I recently queried the fact that ShareThis was losing its settings everytime you changed any other plugin on the site. The new version seems to have corrected this as well. Thanks for a nice plugin.
I agree with the extra space on the IFRAME, because I do not use all the bookmarking engines. It really should adjust the height automatically.
Other than that, it’s a cool plugin, and useful too. 😉
thank for new version plugin. i just try it and work perfect..
Thanks for this update. You plugin is pretty cool and useful too.
Finally! It’s useable. I’ve officially switched from Classic to 2.1 and I am happy. The big problem was how 2.1b would lose it’s settings all the time. That drove me nuts. But now, it works!
Still waiting for some minor upgrades, and I’ll be a happy camper. Excellent work.
Hello Alex, any localization on its Way? Language files? That would be great…

Can anyone tell me how to change the position of the ShareThis window relative to the link on the page? I followed the directions in the README section that said to add the following parameters to the query string: &offsetTop=100&offsetLeft=-349, but that had no effect.
It should be noted I am running ShareThis on a stand alone site. . .not a WordPress site.
Thanks in advance!
Krumpet
Oops. Please disregard my previous comment. Add offsetTop= and offsetLeft= works fine. Must have been a type-o or something.
Thanks for everything you do! Your work saves us all a lot of time and energy.
I have shareThis 2.1 on my 2.3.3 blog, and when I use it to email someone, it says successful, but no email is sent.
I have put in the javascript code, and it displays properly, but no email…
Do i need to configure something else to make this work?
Sometimes asking a question makes the solution appear…I disabled and uninstalled ShareThis, then reinstalled it and activated, then re-applied the javascript code, and it works.
Happy as a clam – and it is pretty fast to load and send too!
Alex, you make good cookies!
I have added sharethis to a my site. It seems to work fine in IE, but I am having issues with it in FF.
When I click on the link, it bumps me back up to the top of the page. I have also noticed that it will place a # at the end of the URL.
Any idea why?
Hi! I’ve installed the “Classic” on wordpress… now how can i sign up for the tracking services at sharethis.com? I signed up, but I don’t see a “reports” link or similar.
Is there a discussion forum I can pester?
Thanks!
