Is there a good domain registrar out there that offers DNS hosting and has an automated system to migrate all of your current DNS records to their hosting?
Namecheap has the services I’m looking for, but I’d have to manually bring over the DNS records for the 85 domains I am looking to move.
Since the DNS records are publicly available, it seems like it should be pretty simple to have a “maintain current DNS records” option as part of set-up for DNS for a domain. I don’t want to have to manually look up and set the records for each domain.
Perhaps I’m missing something obvious here – educate me in the comments.
@alexkingorg is that possible? I’d like to know as well if it is… Bailing from GoDaddy ASAP.
@alexkingorg we generally recommend enom.com
@MNHost Based on their website, this does not look like a solution.
@alexkingorg I’ll be glad to help you personally move over to @DynInc if you are interested. DynECT allows you to import your zone files.
@alexkingorg @namedotcom care to shed some light if this is possible? http://t.co/VeZ3dT7B
Moved from GoDaddy to Name.com and all of my nameservers migrated automatically, but since I didn’t use GoDaddy as DNS, I wouldn’t know. Name.com is a Denver-based company.
.@aaronbailey if @namedotcom can do this and provide a reasonable price on the 80 some-odd transfers, I’m in.
@alexkingorg Use NODADDY for discount. Not sure about them auto transferring DNS records, but maybe @namedotcom can help.
@aaronbailey @alexkingorg We make no changes to name servers or dns record so you should be good (barring host changes but that’s rare)
@namedotcom kinda looking for the opposite: http://t.co/AxKmpcrZ /cc @aaronbailey
@alexkingorg I think @dnsimple (http://t.co/7MDf18in) does what you are looking for!
@cphaynes Can’t afford an extra ~$500/year for domain registration.
@cphaynes @alexkingorg you have to be able to run some ruby scripts right now to do it as it’s not in the UI, but yes, it can be automated.
Alex,
The only reason you can’t automatically grab from the public DNS is because it’s not possible to determine subdomains without doing a zone transfer, and no one enables public zone transfers. You can import if you have a zone file exported from your current DNS provider.
Sincerely,
Anthony Eden
.@aeden Thanks for the explanation. I figured there had to be some technical reason I was missing.
Give hover.com a shout. They have a concierge service where they care of all the transfer admin stuff for you. if you explain your situation, I’m pretty sure they’ll do it for free! Feel free to use coupon code ‘jkudish’ for 10% off. (yes it’s an affiliate link but you might as well save)
I just went with hover as well. Their concierge service was awesome because I was just like you and didn’t want to deal with all the headache of moving them.
