I don’t get this… how is the adapter $10 more than the cable itself? I’ve accumulated a ton of 30-pin cables; I can only assume that this adapter is intended more for devices like docks, etc. rather than for the cables themselves.
Hopefully Monoprice will have good options on cables and/or adapters in the near future.
I could have sworn that during the announcements I saw somebody say that the adapter would be around $10, which didn’t sound too unreasonable. But $30? That’s nuts. Especially considering that you can buy a 5-pack of the standard 30-pin cables from Amazon for less than $5.

It costs more because it does more – it also has to provide a DAC (lightening doesn’t do analog audio) and appropriate magic to make the other pins do their thing to the right combo in lightening land.
The USB version presumably is a direct one USB wire to one lightening pin mapping or something simple like that.
