Subject: Progress update

This was originally an email written to my family and friends on the date above. I decided to make these public in the event they may be helpful to someone in the future who is embarking on a similar journey to mine.

Hi Everyone–

Nothing super significant has happened since my last email. I’m still recovering at home and have an appt. tomorrow to get the staples from my abdominal surgery removed (I have a zipper up my stomach right now). From there we expect a referral to an oncologist and an initial meeting within the next week or so.

I’m working to eat and try to rebuild strength, but it’s been a little slower going than I’d hoped. I’m trying to be patient as I’m sure that things will start ramping up soon. Building up strength is a requirement for me to be able to begin chemo, etc.

After living in a bit of a cloud since arriving home last week, I switched from Percocet to Tylenol for pain maintenance yesterday. I’m a lot more lucid and generally feel better, but there is a little more discomfort. Trying to get the balance right will probably take a little more experimenting, but I feel good to be off the heavy stuff – at least for the most part.

The meeting with my team last week went well. They were very supportive and I feel really good about their ability to execute while I’m out.

Thank you to everyone who has called, emailed and visited – I wouldn’t have chosen these circumstances, but it’s been really great to talk to everyone. I really appreciate and value all of your friendship and support.
