1. The Web We Lost →

I couldn’t agree more with the point that the proprietary services built better/easier products and we badly overestimated how much people would value their independence. All things being equal, people would rather have more control. Achieving that equality is really hard.

Be sure to read the follow-up as well.

  2. AppleTV (Airplay) with the Asus RT-N66U

I finally took the time to re-work the AV set-up in my house over the last few weeks (a project that was years overdue). We will have compatibility releases of our commercial WordPress products (RAMP, Carrington…

I feel for Greg and Tim, they created a very reasonable “premium” level and the blog post couldn’t have been clearer, but they still had to deal with the headaches associated with “changing the rules” on people.

  6. Sunday Planning for a Productive Week →

I read a developer’s blog post a while back1 where he described his process of outlining on paper the code he’ll need to write the next day. I love this idea because it allows the ideas and problems to simmer overnight before you start writing code.

    (thanks Matt)

  7. The one Git command I consistently get wrong is using “checkout” when I mean “clone”. The last vestiges of my years using SVN.
