  1. 2005 in Review

I’ve been working hard on stuff for the upcoming FeedLounge launch all weekend, so I haven’t found time to write up the kind of year-end recaps I’ve enjoyed reading on other blogs I frequent. I’ll try to hit the highlights though, it’s been quite a year: January – I finally have to buy a windows…

  2. Hey, that’s my content…

I’m seeing my content showing up on more and more random web sites – sites that I certainly haven’t given permission to republish my content. Some don’t even give any type of link back or credit. Annoying. 🙄

  3. Goodbye RSS Ads

The RSS ads were an interesting failed experiment: 20 days, 10 clicks. Ouch! I’ve removed the ads until they prove relevant enough to be more than just an annoyance to my readers. Maybe I’ll check see if they’ve improved in a few months, or test out Google’s offering when they let me.

  4. RSS Ads Update

I’ve scaled back my RSS ads experiment to show ads in half of my posts instead of every post. So far, the RSS ads are a dismal failure – averaging barely one click a day. Some feedback I’ve gotten from friends indicates this could be due to the ads being completely irrelevant to the content.…

  5. RSS Ads

I’ve been beta testing the Yahoo Publisher Network ads here on my site for the last few months. This evening I logged in to check how they are doing and noticed they added RSS ads as well. Pretty nice set-up, it generates code for WordPress or Moveable Type and has good installation instructions. Anyway, I…

  6. Server Overloaded

This poor server box is getting a bit overloaded. Intermittent bouncing of processes seems to be the quick fix of the day. We’ve purchased more RAM but it hasn’t been installed yet. Hopefully that will happen soon and it will fix the performance issues we’re seeing right now. Thanks for your patience.

  7. Comments

Every once in a while, one of my posts will end up ranking high in a search engine; with the result being an ongoing stream of interesting comments. Here are 2 examples: CitiMortgage Frustrations My original complaints seem rather insignificant compared to the horror stories that some of these folks are going through. This post…

  8. Three Years

Three years ago yesterday, I entered the first post in my blog. That seems like both “a long time ago” and “wow, three years?”. Now that I have a few years of content, maybe I should set up “previously on this day” links in the sidebar like Mike has.

  9. #104

How about that, this blog was ranked at #104 in the Feedster top 500 blogs list. That’s some very nice company to be in. Thanks to all of you who e-mailed to let me know. 🙂

  10. Colorado Blogs

I’m not one to sign up for a lot of blog rings and the like, but I did add my site to Colorado Blogs. I saw the link on Greg’s blog. What blog rings have you signed up for and why? What benefits do you think they give you?

  11. New FeedLounge Alpha Server

We moved FeedLounge (the my.feedlounge.com part) to a separate server this evening. It’s now behaving like it’s supposed to again – nice and snappy. I got through ~400 items pretty darn quick. Removing that load from this server should mean better response time from this site and the King Design sites (including free trials of…

  12. Server Downtime

Last night, my server ran out of disk space – oops! Everything should be back to normal now, but if you e-mailed me in the last 10 hours and haven’t gotten a response yet you should probably re-send.

  13. Follow-up on E-mail Policy

I’ve gotten some great responses to my proposed e-mail policy and I wanted to follow up on them. Many people have recommended responding with a canned reply or template. I actually already do this. I currently have 12 “templates” that I send out depending on the incoming e-mail. While this does save time, it is…
