Ken Macha Praise

Posted in: Sports

In his first game as manager of the Oakland A’s, Ken Macha resisted the temptation to keep starting pitcher Tim Hudson in the game in the 9th inning even though he had a shutout going. Letting your starter go for the complete game shutout was not the right thing to do on a cold opening night when your pitcher has already thrown 107 pitches through 8 innings and you have a fully rested bullpen. Macha may have saved Hudson from the slump he suffered last season after throwing 118 and 105 pitches back to back in April last year.
