Much ado?

Posted in: Development, Technology

Matt is quite perturbed over Lockergnome changing back to a table layout from a CSS layout. I don’t see it quite the way he does.

The world is full of things done well and things done poorly. Something done poorly will often still :scare: work :/scare:, but have a variety of drawbacks. This is what I see here.

Will their new site look fine to most people? Yes.

Will it be as clean and as elegant as it could be? No.

It isn’t ideal, but it isn’t the end of the world either.

I certainly agree that it isn’t the end of the world. Personally I never read Lockergnome and found it to be rather boring. But he does have a good point that if one is to consider them a leading authority on webstandards, they have to live by those standards.

Is it the end of the world? No. Does it deserve criticism? Yeah, I think that it does.

If the old “fancy” design didn’t work and the new one didn’t, perhaps I could be more understanding. It’s just such a disappointment.

From what I’ve read, they seem to be “shooting the messenger”. The reactions to the CSS design probably had very little to do with the CSS and very much to do with the design itself.
