I don’t care for bees in any flavor, but yellow jackets are particularly bad. And that is exactly who decided to take residence on my house this year.
I called a local guy who got rid of them – thank goodness.

You could just go out at night (post sunset by an hour or so) with a can of Raid. They are all inside the nest then. In the morning you can remove the nest.
Can of Raid has got to be cheaper.
I’ll be sure to invite you over to do that next time. 😉
Besides not having a ladder tall enough to reach up there, that nest is just slightly smaller than a football.
I was stung more than fifty times by yellowjackets when I was a kid. I must have stepped on their hive, but I’ll never know for sure. I was too busy running.
The things shoot something like 30 feet. Course you might have a little trouble hitting the opening from that far off.
We had to go through this routine a few times every summer back in NY.
Honey bees are the sweetest creatures. if i were u..I could have started honey selling business. Lol.
Heh — I have been reading your blog and keeping up with what you do for a while Alex, it’s a simple RSS feed. I go to GaTech, and when I saw this, I was expecting some sort of “Go get those Notre Dame Irish…” but instead, you were honestly talking about yellow jackets. Oh well — it was enough for me to comment on 😛
Had the same problem in 2002 at my old Mtn View apartment!
Our company just developed a new device to attach a spray can to an extension pole to reach nests like the one shown. It is available at Meijer, English Gardens, and Pro-Hardware.
Called, The Spray Close Spray Extender.
Also on E-Bay.
