TextMate vs. BBEdit

Posted in: Links

Lots of interesting comments here, I read 20 or so. One thing I’d like to point out though, these are two excellent Mac OS X text editors. I’m a BBEdit user, but if only TextMate existed, I’d use it and be pretty happy. As far as I know there aren’t any Windows text editors that are in the same class.

Homesite (which was originally by Allaire) is the best text editor for Windows. But Macromedia basically abandoned it once they acquired Allaire and have pushed Dreamweaver instead ever since.

Still, I’d take Homesite 5 (which was released in October of 2001 and hasn’t changed since as far as I know) over the latest and greatest version of Dreamweaver any day.

I used HomeSite for a while, but really despised it. I used UltraEdit instead which I thought was better – but didn’t really like.

See “E”, which calls itself “Textmate for Windows” and supports Textmate bundles. Currently in beta.
