Posted in: Development, Share Icon, WordPress

I’m getting e-mails (and comments) from people asking where they can get a copy of Share This (my social web/e-mail plugin for WordPress) for:

  • Moveable Type (and TypePad)
  • Drupal
  • Blogger
  • LiveJournal
  • Firefox Extension
  • Safari Extension
  • Greasemonkey scripts for inclusion in web-based apps like Bloglines, Google Reader, etc.
  • Add more in the comments…

I haven’t built add-ons for most of these platforms before, so I’d love to work with folks who do have experience on these platforms port it over. I set up a Share This/Share Icon developers forum to help get things started.

If you want to port Share This to another platform leave a comment, head over to the forum or get in touch and we’ll get it built.

Movable Type users can use the Promote This plugin: http://www.majordojo[...]ote_this.php

That will be great as a code sample. Of course, it doesn’t work at all like the Share This plugin so one is still needed.

I could see this being useful beyond simply blogs, but also in message boards. Being able to easily share a thread from a message board would be fantastic. I’m very biased and would love to see a phpBB version of it. :)

    Hi Alex,

I just created a port for Expression Engine, which can be found here:

I added an additional paramater (orientation) to let the user decide where to put the layer.

Alex, I really appreciate this plugin and use it in my blogs.

I have a question (as I’m not much of a techie): I’d like to use it on .htm pages (older articles I wrote on my websites). Is there any way to do that with the plugin as is or would it require special coding?

    Thanks a lot

Hey, Alex. Love your blog. And, I’m amazed by the beaty and simplicity of your Share This plaug-in. It makes me wish I were a WordPress user. Alas, I am not that technical and kidna need the turnkey aspects of TypePad.

I hope you will consider making a TypePad version of Share This. I think it would be very popular. While I can’t say I have the money to help fund development, if you sell it as a product, I’d pay $50 for it. I bet others would too. Take care!

I want to be able to put this on my website… in place of Add This bookmarker.

I like the idea of one icon… any plans or any ideas how I can just put this in the pages of my html website?

I think ShareThis is the best social sharing plug-in currently available. Most plug-ins slow down page loading times while icons and other information is transferred from a remote host. With ShareThis the transfer only occurs when a user clicks on the “ShareThis” link.

It is a shame to see that the last post found in the developer forums is from 2007.
