I’ve updated my Share This plugin to version 1.4. This includes a number of minor changes since the last release:
- New method of including Prototype for WP 2.0.x users (can be used by other plugins as well) to avoid including Prototype twice, if possible. This technique is also used in my new WP Grins release.
- StumbleUpon is included as a default link.
- Updated FAQ in the README, addressing a few issues I’ve seen in the forums and via e-mail.
- Added a
robots="noindex, noarchive"to the Share This page for each post. - Added a missing
>symbol. - Now using
wp_mail()instead of the straight PHPmail()function. - Explicitly set the
z-indexfor the pop-up form.
I haven’t gotten around to some of the more significant changes I plan to make, but I figured getting these out there sooner rather than later was a good idea.
Also, I’ve seen a number of translations popping up, if someone wanted to head up an effort to get proper translation files included, I’d be happy to include them. All the strings are abstracted already.
The download and more information are available on my WordPress Plugins page.
If you have any trouble with this, please open a thread in the WP Support Forums and send me the link.

I’m glad to see the update. We’ve been having some trouble with migrating over to 2.1 and still on a previous version. We’ve really been wanting to implement this but it just wasn’t working the way we wanted. Hopefully this update will give us what we’re looking for. Thanks again!

Ahh, excellent. I had problems with 1.3.1, but this one works just fine, right out of the box. (to be fair, I think my problem with the previous version was probably due to a kink in my comments template).

Alex, I contacted you a while ago about not being able to get version 1.3 to work correctly (it would only load the full page, not the drop down). I was never able to get that going.
Thank you for this update. I just removed 1.3 and installed this one. It fixed my problem and it works great.
Keep up the good work.

I translated this great plugin in italian adding some italian social bookmarking service.
I also applied some modification to make it as valid XHTML 1.1 Transitional.
The validator gives errors about the & characters and “No charset found”.
I add an utf-8 charset in the plugin headers and a function that substituite & whit &[+]amp; when the client view the complete page of the plugin (ie: when someone has javascript disable).
Thanks for you great work!

Great plugin, Alex.
I’ve integrated it into my social bookmarking plugin called Gregarious.
The only major change I’ve made is to add an options page where you can reshuffle or add / delete social sites.

Hey there,
I’m in the midst of getting share this up and running on my blog and I noticed something that might be of interest since you mentioned earlier wanting a more compressed version of prototype to distribute.
The script seems to work perfectly using mootools after changing the lines that use Prototype’s Position.cumulativeOffset(link) to use link.getPosition(),

Has this been ported over to Drupal yet by you or anyone else?
Also — any thought about putting a third tab into the popup that has the Tracback URI, eliminating the confusing trackback do-nothing pseudo-link in WP and making the display line even neater?
Great plugin — great contribution to the ‘net.

Facebook can be added by doing these simple steps:
1. In Site Admin, click on Plugins –> Under Share This, click Edit. You should now be editing the share-this/share-this.php file.
2. I went the easy route and deleted one of the existing bookmarking services. I picked BlinkList because I’ve never heard of it, you can pick your own, or add a new one.
3. This is what the facebook template looks like:
)
, ‘facebook’ => array(
‘name’ => ‘Facebook’
, ‘url’ => ‘http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u={url}&Title={title}’
4. For the icon, you’ll need to create a gif file. The easiest way to do this is to download www.facebook.com/favicon.ico. Rename it to facebook.gif (it has to be that name) and upload it to your share-this plugin folder.
Enjoy.
