A brand spankin’ new version of WordPress Mobile Edition is now available. This is a WordPress plugin that will display a mobile-friendly theme for your site if your site visitor is using a mobile browser.
Here are some of the changes since the 2.x releases:
- New (Carrington-based) theme with more advanced display for advanced mobile browsers. You can see a preview of the theme here.
- Advanced mobile browsers (iPhone, Android, etc.) are now shown the mobile theme by default.
- Special CSS for “touch” browsers like the iPhone, Android, BlackBerry Storm, etc. that make links and buttons nicely finger-sized.
- Admin page to enable adding/editing the list of detected mobile and touch browsers.
- Compatible with the excellent WP SuperCache (latest version).
This is a beta release as we’ve only done internal testing on the new version so far, so be sure to let us know if you run into any trouble with it.
The download and more information are available on my WordPress Plugins page.
If you have any trouble with this, please open a thread in the WP Support Forums and e-mail me a link to the thread.

alex thanks for yet another wonderful plugin – it looks like it’s going to be a real winner. I installed it on my personal site (running default carrington since this weekend) and get an error when clicking save settings on the browser select page -> “Cannot load cf-mobile.php.” Hope it helps you in development – thanks again for the wonderful WordPress resources you put out there.

Nice catch – looks like I missed something in the last minute filename change. Fix available in SVN trunk.

Alex, will it work with WP Super Cache? I tried a mobile version plugin sometime back & the issue with that was that if mobile version loaded when cache was empty then even desktop users were seeing mobile version since that was cached by WP Super Cache and if desktop version was cached then that was served to mobile browsers as well.

Can you display Google Adsence ads?? My website is making good money and I want to reach mobiles. I have installed the 2.0 WordPress Mobile and my visits have increased. I’d be happy to send some money your way for this. What say you?

Google wants to know what markup language in which my mobile website is written:
xhtml (WAP 2.0)
wml (WAP 1.x)
chtml
I tried one of these and it did not work well with the web version. It was the xhtml (WAP 2.0) and it completely messed up the website when testing.

Wow!
You created this, Alex?
Is this possible to have it on site together with usual browser version simultaneously?
May it recognize kind of PC device, and if it mobile- automatically turn on to review only Mobile version?

Thanks for the great plugin.
To fix “Cannot load cf-mobile.php error”, just rename the wp-mobile.php as cf-mobile.php.

On WP-SuperCache compatibility – it does appear to be working fine, but if I use the ?cf_action=show_mobile link, and then click the link to exit the mobile version, I’m seeing the cached mobile page.
Am I correct in assuming this shouldn’t affect anyone at all, as nobody will ever be switching between the two versions? (Only used the link for testing on my computer.)
