  1. Google Rank Revisited

At least for the moment, I’ve jumped onto the first page of search results for "alex". #10 out of 15,400,000 ain’t bad! 😎 I don’t know if this is the result of a little effort, the culmination of random links over time or just a temporary bump but I’ll certainly take it.

  2. NetNewsWire 1.0.7b7

Brent has released NetNewsWire 1.0.7b7. I’ve been using the early betas and it is very nice. Not only does this release include the great wide-screen view, but this humble blog is now included in the default sites list. Thanks Brent!

  3. Web Hosting and a Security Audit for Tasks Pro

In the next few weeks, I’m going to be moving my site to a blazing new server at Austin Dev (www.austindev.com). I mention this now because this past week I was talking with Chris (from Austin Dev) about doing a security audit of Tasks Pro. Tasks Pro is the first product I’ve built that has…

  4. Centralized RSS Data – a Solution?

Feedster has launched myFeedster, a web based RSS aggregator service. I think this is great – having a centralized web based RSS aggregator makes a lot of sense to anyone who uses more than one computer. I do think there is potential for something even better though… With this new service Feedster is in a…

  5. Checkboxes and JavaScript ‘onchange’ Events

In Safari, clicking a checkbox does not fire an ‘onchange’ event. It does in Mozilla. Looking at the HTML 4.0 spec, I think Safari’s handling is technically correct (though it isn’t entirely clear here). I guess I’ll have to use ‘onclick’ for checkboxes instead… Might one assume I’m working on some multi-select capability for Tasks…

  6. HTML Resume Template (in PHP) v. 2.0

I’ve posted version 2.0 of my HTML Resume Template. It is released under the GPL license. Not only does it produce a valid XHTML 1.1 resume, but it will give you a plain text version as well. I decided to go with the additional CSS stylesheet for print as well. You can see the sample…

  7. Biculturalism and Web/Mac Developers

alex: you see this already? http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/Biculturalism.html jason: but of course! alex: I’m not sure where web/Mac developers fit in here jason: me neither alex: something about the best of both sides… ? jason: I think web developers may be able to bridge the gap, ’cause ideally you’re building “smallish” applications that perform a few tasks…

  8. Accessible Forms and <optgroup>

I was reading this article on making forms accessible when I discovered the <optgroup> tag. I’ve never seen this tag before – it seems to work great in Safari but is ignored in Mozilla. Anyone have any real-world experience using it?

  9. Around the web

Jeremy has some predictions for 2004. I agree with a lot of these. I’m not sure that RSS will go mainstream in 2004 or not, but something like it will definitely be in the mainstream in the next year or two and (much like email) people will forget how they ever lived without it. The…

  10. Doh! 1 minute too late…

If you’re flying on United out of Denver, make sure you check in at least 30 minutes (for carry-on, 45 minutes if you are checking bags) before your flight is scheduled to leave. If you try to checking 29 minutes before the flight is scheduled to leave – you will have to catch the next…

  11. Flexible Width Designs

Matt comments on the apparent death of flexible width designs. Flexible width designs seem to work well in web applications (tasks for example), but on my web site I’ve chosen to use a fixed width. Frankly, the biggest knock I have against flexible width designs is that they often encourage usability problems. There is a…

  12. The Great Renaming

I’ve just posted this on the WordPress dev-blog… Matt has renamed all the ‘b2’ files to ‘wp-‘! The .80 upgrade may be a little painful (hacks are gonna break), but this was a great step and I’m thrilled he did it!
