Jason recently posted some great tips for buying a car which I followed today. Unfortunately, after finding a sales rep we liked during the test drive process, things fell apart during the financial negoitations. The sales rep said he’s going to talk to the dealer’s other finiancial guy (apparently the son of the owner w/ more clout) on Monday and try to work out a deal.

Ho-hum, there went a Saturday I could have spent golfing. On a positive note, we brought the pup along on the second trip (to puchase) and she was very well behaved. 🙂
Glad you liked the post 🙂 Hope it was useful.
Sorry to hear that things fell apart during negotiations. Hopefully your salesman can put something together for you on Monday… Good luck!
What are you shopping for? Good Luck!
Check out http://www.edmunds.com. I found the articles on there extremely useful when buying a car. It also has great reviews about cars and how they perform 10 years down the road from both JD Power & Associates and real people.
One of the articles I linked to above is on Edmunds. 🙂
You might look at http://www.fightingchance.com. Their FaxAttack seems pretty effective. A co-worker used it and really liked how it worked and put them out competing for you.
Thanks. We got the deal done this morning (needed to with the snow) but that looks like a cool resource.
I love your blog, Great stuff.
You simply have to be able say ‘no, thanks at that price’ at least once to the dealer. This gives them a strong message that you are serious about your research.
You should also bring a piece of paper to the dealership and make sure you do all the math of the finance calculations yourself. The point is not that they will do the math wrong. The point is you will see exactly how the deal is structured. Do not be afraid to take the time to do this or look like a fool for mapping out your car deal in the dealership.
