Both my PowerBook and PowerMac have been suffering from corrupted font caches over the last few months. Generally a few letters in Monaco start looking funny in Mail.app. Font Finagler1 fixes it each time, however it’s becoming a real annoyance.
My searches haven’t turned up any known issues – anyone know what could be causing this?
- I’d prefer the problem go away rather than registering, but I may register soon just because the software is saving me time right now. [back]
Alex,
Have you seen this?

Yes, it seems like a different issue.
Have you tried deleting the font caches? Linotype’s free FontExplorer X can do this for you, as can any number of maintenance utilities like Onyx or Cocktail.
I had this trouble with Arial in Firefox and Camino, and it turned out I had two instances of the font installed (one in my User folder and one in the System folder). I removed the font file from my User file, logged out and, and everything’s been great since. You might give it a try.
Thanks for the suggestion, I checked for a duplicate copy of the font but can’t find one.
I’ve been having a similar problem. My font cache gets screwed up and Firefox/Camino both display the wrong font on a lot of webpages. I believe the font is Monoco. Anyway, have you made any headway on this issue? I’m sick of having to dump my font caches with a restart to fix the problem.
No, it still happens from time to time. 🙁
Did you ever solve this problem, Alex? I have the same, and it’s driving me slightly nutty…

would the font cache issues prevent me from sending/forwarding and my cursor typing backwards?
I so need help on this.
