Since Scott and I moved our e-mail to FastMail1, this server has perked up considerably.
When someone would log into an IMAP account with lots of messages (1000+), the synchronization step was disk heavy and would slow the server to a crawl – taking down web sites at times. This seems to have gone away completely. Knock wood.
We’re still moving to a better box in the next few weeks, but thankfully the sense of “this sucker’s gonna blow any second” has lessened considerably. 🙂

You’re tempting me, Alex.
I heard that FastMail was having some problems with bouncing emails, frequent server problems, and slow support staff. I’m actually summarizing the problems someone reviewed on another site. I’d like to ask you if you have had any problems like that in the past 2 months or so? The review was made in March of this year and stated that these problems had been occuring for a few months. I am tired of dealing with the recent problems I am having with gmail and I am strongly considering FastMail as my alternative, but I would like to know about this before I pay $34.95 for my account. Hope to get a reply soon. Thanks.
Jeb: I don’t know about Alex, but I’ve had no issues in the few weeks I’ve used it.
Jeb – I’ve got nothing but the top marks across the board for FastMail. Highly recommended – click my referral link. 😉
