I finally got BBReply properly installed on my BlackBerry 8700g. The trick is to do a full reboot in order to activate BBReply.
This means:
- Turn the BlackBerry off
- Take the battery out
- Put the battery back in
Now BBReply will be installed and you’ll have a Reply-To option in your menu.
However now that I have it coming up, it still doesn’t seem to be working. I can select a Reply-To address, but neither the From or the Reply-To on the e-mail that is sent uses this address. It still uses the From address set for the account in the BlackBerry web interface.
Does anyone have this thing working with an 8700?
Ok, I sort of got it up and running finally Alex.
Here’s exactly what I did:
– Uninstalled BBReply
– Powered Down
– Removed Battery
– Powered back up
– Went into BBReply and set up reply-to addresses
– Powered Down
– Removed Battery
– Powered back up
– Composed email
– Click thumb wheel, choose Set ReplyTo
– Choose address that you set up
– Send email
It shows the “real” from address when I checked it through my yahoo webmail client. But I checked the headers and it is setting the reply-to header to what I chose when composing the message. And when I chose reply in Yahoo Mail it did compose the message to be sent to the reply-to I’d chosen.
Within the BIS setup, you can set a “From” and a “Reply-to” option. I cleared the value for Reply-To. For the from I chose the blackberry address. I haven’t tried doing it with an address other then my direct blackberry address.
Anyhow, just wanted to let you know my findings. Hope it can be of some assistance.
Oh, and obviously I re-installed BBReply after uninstalling it, then I powered down and removed battery then powered back up just as you did.
BBReply On The BlackBerry 8700g
A little help here for anyone trying to setup BBReply on their BlackBerry 8700g….
I can’t seem to clear the Reply-To value in the e-mail set-up web interface. Perhaps that is the problem.
Hmm, and you’re talking about the Reply-To under “Options” as opposed to the From under “Profile” right? (Should see this under the field: “If a reply-to address is not provided, replies will be sent to your Sent From Address.”)
If you can’t I’d try writing into RIM or T-Mobile, since as far as I can tell, you and I are probably using the same web interface just with a different skin based on our providers.
Yep, I can’t clear that field and save.
[…] Unfortunately, neither of these actually provide multiple From addresses or “personality” support, they only allow you to set a Reply-To field for the message. I tried to get BBReply working, and failed. […]
Good reading, interesting article. Thank you for your time writing this blog.
By the way, is design for this blog made by you? I swear I saw the same design on G160 website a few months ago, but they seems to have different layout now. Don’t understand me wrong, I’m not blaming, I’m just interested.
@TechnoBoy: Heh, Alex has been using this theme since before g160.org existed I would be willing to bet.
I designed this site back in 2001-2002 and have been using it since that time.
