Please understand that just because a web site links to mine does not mean that I am somehow responsible for their site or their actions. I gave the Logitech S 530 a fair shake, even after its drivers caused my machine to freeze up (which in turn corrupted my hard drive and cost me several weeks in data recovery hell). The thing is, I just didn’t like the keyboard action. It’s not as bad as the membrane keyboard that Apple…

I used this and liked it a while back. I can’t recall why I stopped using it (laziness during an upgrade probably), but I’m glad to have it back again. I’m both pleased and a little surprised at how good the admin interfaces of my plugins look straight out of the box with this enabled.
Note: I bumped the font size up for my install by setting the
bodysize fromsmalltolarge. Well done Steve! -
I’ve checked a beta version of my Link Harvest plugin (see it in action on my Links page) for WordPress into the WP Plugins SVN repository. There are no installation instructions or README yet. This was actually already written, but was lost in my hard drive snafu a few weeks back. That data is being…

This release fixes a little bug that could cause problems with comments being attached to the wrong post and could potentially cause problems with other plugins on your Articles page. This is a recommended upgrade. The download is available on my WordPress Plugins page. If you have any trouble with this, please open a thread…

It seems that the compressed version of Prototype I included in the Share This 1.3 download isn’t compatible with IE7. I’ve repackaged with the original (larger) version and will attempt to get a more compatible compressed version for a future release. Note the updated FAQ section of the README in this release as well. The…

(Sorry for the long title, trying to make it descriptive to help future searchers on this topic.) After backing up my desktop machine last night, I let it run the latest Security Update. Mistake. After the update, the machine wouldn’t boot again – with the fans screaming “I don’t like this RAM” at the top of their lungs. I removed half the RAM, and it booted up successfully.1 I’ve really just about…

I’m going to have to send in my MacBook for service due to the random shutdown bug1. Luckily, I still have my old PowerBook to use while it’s in for service. Unluckily, I’d wiped it clean to get it ready to sell a while back so I need to set it up as a development…

It seems that alexking.org is currently on the Amazing Bouncing Server: up, down, up, down. I hear that it’s become a betting game among some of my regular visitors. This entertainment is provided free of charge. 🙂 UPDATE: We’re running on a new configuration now. UPDATE #2: We’ve confirmed that this is the work of…

I set up an event in Google Calendar to give my dog (Noonan) a bath. I typed: Bathe Noonan at 9pm into the Quick Add box. Google Calendar saw the ‘noon’ in there and set up an appointment to ‘Bathe an’ at 12pm (noon) and set ‘9pm’ as the location. Kinda funny I guess, since…

I just installed my replacement RAM from OWC – the machine hasn’t blown up yet. No more disk swapping every 5 seconds – it’s so good. This time they sent TechWorks RAM instead of a ‘generic’ brand that I had the last 3 times, so perhaps that bodes well. Even though the RAM I bought…

Note: This is the seventh in a series of articles about the building of alexking.org 2.0. One of the great strengths of WordPress is its plugin system. In the upcoming 2.1 release, there is very little you can’t do as a drop-in plugin. This makes it easy to use WordPress as a CMS and keep…

Having a good web-based text editor for fixing/tweaking stuff on my server (while away from my normal machines) could be darn handy. I’ve got a few ideas to play around with here…

I was thrilled to discover that Target allows you to log in and do one-click ordering with your Amazon account. My guess is that the Target system may be powered by Amazon – but either way I’ve added Target to my list of preferred shopping sites. For the curious in the audience, I was placing…
