I’ve got a new version of Twitter Tools ready to go, but wanted to do a quick release candidate to get some wider testing before doing the general 2.0 release.
This has some new features, including bit.ly support, option to exclude tweeting blog posts in certain categories, hashtags and the ability to customize the tweet prefix on new blog post tweets.
You can download the release candidate here.
Please let me know if you run into any issues with this version, thanks!

Ooh, lovely. I hacked it to change the prefix text, but it’ll be nice to have that as an official option.
*goes to download*
Oh, another thing I hacked it to do (which you might like for future) is to link to the non-pretty WP permalinks like
http://domain.com/?p=1
so that my domain name stays in people’s faces, not some URL shortener.
Just removed Twitter Tools from the WordCamp.LA site for thoughts of not updated for the latest WP version.
Nice to see an update. Would like to see some other shortners in there, and like Sue said, the ability to use self hosted non-pretty permalinks.
Will check this new one out, sounds like it may have some nice new features.
Liking it! Tweaked my sidebar widget it a teeny bit with CSS to suit my own taste, but that’s neither here nor there.
One thing I am noticing: For “Exclude @reply tweets in your sidebar, digests and created blog posts?” I’ve had “Yes” selected from the get-go, but one such tweet is right there in my sidebar. I guess it’s because the tweet in question begins with the “#ff” hashtag…? Will the plugin only exclude @ replies if the tweet *begins* with one, or what?
Heh, well there goes my plugin. 😛
Looks like an excellent release though. I’ll test it out. 🙂
sue, i’d love to have that non-pretty permalinks function! how did you do that??
thanks!
When creating a new post I got a huge page of the same error over and over again.
Warning: cannot yet handle MBCS in html_entity_decode()! in /mnt/local/home/jimg72/bigjim.org/blog/wp-content/plugins/twitter-tools/twitter-tools.php on line 475
It appears the post created just fine and was published to Twitter just fine, just the errors on publish.
thanks, love the plugin.
Thanks for all the great work. It looks like it is working fine for me so far.
Thanks for the great plugin. Working like a change on my site!

Hey Alex
Just FYI, my blog is set (Settings > Reading) to use the iso-8859-1 character encoding and I tweet both in English and Danish languages.
I’m not sure what’s the problem, but the weekly update posts made by Twitter Tools display special Danish characters weird (I guess there’s a problem with encoding).
I’d love to see a “bugfix” for that if you also got some other reports reg. the same issue.
For an example, just have a look at my blog, the latest 3 posts are just my tweets and there’s plenty of examples where I tweeted in Danish and where the encoding went wrong.
All the best, Max
Sounds like a general bug/issue with existing releases too – not something new in this release. If someone can provide a patch I’d be happy to incorporate it.
this is a tidy wordpress plugin. bitly is priceless for twitter analytics. i like the hashtag and prefix functionalities. nice job. thanks for sharing!
