  1. How to Reset Sync Data after Migrating to iCloud

After migrating from MobileMe to iCloud, I ran into a nasty situation where iSync/MobileMe sync thought I had data conflicts but I couldn’t resolve them. The way the Conflict Resolver dialog appears and acts is a nightmare. When it appears, it hangs for a good 30 seconds, spiking the CPU and not allowing itself to…

  2. Cleaning… →

There’s no longer anywhere to store files that don’t need to be backed up (or can’t be, by the new policy) but shouldn’t be randomly deleted.

What a mess. Hopefully that’s high enough priority to make it into the .1 release. The workaround in the meantime would seem to be to keep a reasonable bit of free space on your device.

  3. The Rands Test →

This is when I discovered that growing rapidly teaches you one thing well: how communication continually finds new and interesting ways to break down.

If you aren’t subscribed to Rands in Repose, shame on you.

  4. iPhone Tethering on Verizon is now a Plan Change

One of the things I’ve liked about Verizon with my Droid and iPhone is the ability to flip on the HotSpot feature via the My Verizon app. I click on Plan Features and turn it on/off. Easy. Last month I made some account changes and added some family members to my plan. I discovered that…

  5. Stevey’s Google Platforms Rant →

That one last thing that Google doesn’t do well is Platforms. We don’t understand platforms. We don’t “get” platforms. Some of you do, but you are the minority. This has become painfully clear to me over the past six years. I was kind of hoping that competitive pressure from Microsoft and Amazon and more recently Facebook would make us wake up collectively and start doing universal services. Not in some sort of ad-hoc, half-assed way, but in more or less the same way Amazon did it: all at once, for real, no cheating, and treating it as our top priority from now on.

An interesting and thought provoking read.

  6. On Markdown Editors →

As an aside, it seems odd that Markdown editors and preview apps are suddenly all the rage: it’s been nigh-on seven years since Gruber & Schwartz unveiled the format, to immediate acclaim and widespread adoption.

It’s the app store economy. These types of small utility apps that are specific in use, relatively straightforward to build, and can be priced low enough for impulse buys are tailor made for the app store.

  7. Portland, Maine Photo Walk

Maine is a beautiful part of the country. My excuse for this visit was the awesome Monktoberfest, but a sunny Saturday filled with great people, sightseeing, and taking photos was definitely a highlight of the weekend. Here are some shots from the trip, many taken with my iPhone as we walked around the harbor in…

  8. I think this is turning into one of those weeks where I have to accept I’m just not going to catch up.

  9. Anonomize Non-Public WordPress User Data

If you need to remove non-public user data from a WordPress database, these SQL queries should do the trick for you: This file contains bidirectional Unicode text that may be interpreted or compiled differently than what appears below. To review, open the file in an editor that reveals hidden Unicode characters. Learn more about bidirectional…
