I’ve released version 1.0 of Twitter Tools, my WordPress plugin that does a complete integration between your WordPress blog and your Twitter account.
Features include:
- Archive your Twitter tweets (downloaded every 15 minutes)
- Create a blog post from each of your tweets
- Create a daily digest post of your tweets
- Create a tweet on Twitter whenever you post in your blog, with a link to the blog post
- Post a tweet from your sidebar
- Post a tweet from the WP Admin screens
- Pass your tweets along to another service (via API hook)
Changes from the last beta release include:
- Lots more error handling
- A “Test Login” button
- @username is now clickable in tweets
- A template tag for just the latest tweet
- Make sure not to tweet when editing a tweet digest post
- Make sure not to show duplicate tweets in sidebar
- Twitter Tools now gets credit on tweets created from Twitter Tools
- Lots more that I can’t think of right now
UPDATE: Yes, I urge everyone using the previous beta releases to upgrade to this version.
UPDATE #2: For those that asked, my Twitter account is here. Feel free to add me.
Enjoy!
The download and more information are available on my WordPress Plugins page.
If you have any trouble with this, please open a thread in the WP Support Forums and send me the link.

David Chartier adds this Comment:
Instead of posting a tweet for every blog post, what about designing the feature so it ads a sidebar item to the post editing window that allows us to flip a post/don’t post option (ideally with the option to set either as the default)? Not every post is tweet-able, and I think this would help cut down on the amount of blog-to-tweet spam.

Some suggestions for the next version:
-When a new post is listed, instead of having the title of the post, and then a written out link to it, just hyperlink the post title
-List new comments the way you list new posts
-List post edits
-Have an option not to link the first item in the list to the RSS feed (I have an RSS link in the title of the section)
-Make TinyURL’s optional
Of course having an option to turn each of these on and off would be best.
Thanks again for the awesome plugin!!

This of course, rocks. I use it on 5 different WP sites to send tweets to 2 different twitter accounts.
It would be, just swell, if it could be set to only send to twitter when the post is first published. Every time I have to make an edit to a blog post (quite common, I am typo prone) or update an old post, it re-tweets.
I’m inclined to dump my jug of spare change into the tip jar.
Pretty please?
thanks!
July 25th, 2007 at 4:21 pm
Alex adds this Comment:
Twitter Tools will only post to Twitter once per blog post - if an old post was never “tweeted”, an edit can cause the post to be sent to Twitter. I hope this helps.

Hi, Alex,
Very nice plugin. Thank you for your development effort. Combined with the Google Talk protocol, a good Jabber client (the Windows GTalk client, or, on Linux, Psi), and IMified, your plugin allows for a very slim desktop profile for a lot of flexibility in communication.
I have one question for you:
In the plugin, in your aktt_sidebar_tweet() function, I notice that you wrap the tweets with , and then drop the link to the tweet’s home on Twitter.com inside the content of the list item. If I wanted to wrap the content with the link instead (for a nice :hover color shift), is it sufficient to change only the order of those elements in this function?
Thank you,
Daniel
