I’ve been using a Zimbra account for the past couple of weeks and have found it not to be reliable in syncing my desktop and laptop (both Macs). Yesterday, I was looking at iCal on both machines plus the web interface. I kept synching both machines, but all 3 screens remained different. I had to…

This is excellent news. If you use WordPress, there’s already a great plugin for this.

Adam Tow has just released MsgFiler, an absolute must have add-on for Mail.app users that file messages. Trust me, this puppy will save you serious time every day. Go download it now, then come back here and read more of the back story. Back in 2004, I was so fed up with Mail.app that I…

I received the following inquiry from a fellow that wants to use the mobile interface for Tasks (this applies for Tasks Pro™ users as well) with his BlackBerry: For those who use stylus based PDAs/phones (e.g., Treos) this isn’t an issue because the screen is larger. I’m a longtime PocketPC user until recently. But when…

I’ve gotten several e-mails about this one, so I’m putting it out there for discussion… Does the “Share This” link need a standard icon to be more recognizable? And is there a generic “social bookmark” icon that has gained any sort of traction we could use? I don’t think I’ve seen one – so it…

Thomas Herold asks about my Share This Plugin: The prototype.js is about 56k in size. My concern is that this slows down the loading time of my site. Any comments about this? Yep, comments I’ve got because this was a carefully considered decision. First, let’s look at the ways this isn’t as big a deal…

Share This is a WordPress plugin that allows folks to share a post from your site with others via social bookmarks or by e-mail. My old site had an “E-mail this post” link on every post, and I got a number of requests for it as a plugin. Share This includes this functionality1, plus “add…

One thing that I (temporarily) removed out of indecision in the redesign was the meta tag for a feed on the alexking.org home page. It’s something some folks rely on, so it needs to go back in. On the old site, the home page had a meta tag for the news feed, the content of…

As of now, all new comments hit the moderation queue. However, you can bypass the need for me to approve your comment. When you submit a comment, my system will send you a small email to the email address you supplied. If you click the link in that email message, it’ll approve the comment right away.
Interesting implementation, I’ll be interested to see his idea for lessening the burden on folks that have already clicked through to confirm previous comments (discussion in comments).

I ran across a surprising little feature in Safari. If you change a standard: <input type=”text” /> field to a “search” box like so: <input type=”search” /> In Safari, it is magically transformed from a standard input field to a “search box”. It can also have added functionality like remembering previous searches with an extra…

Daniel and crew are wisely going to add USB support as well.

Lots of interesting comments here, I read 20 or so. One thing I’d like to point out though, these are two excellent Mac OS X text editors. I’m a BBEdit user, but if only TextMate existed, I’d use it and be pretty happy. As far as I know there aren’t any Windows text editors that are in the same class.

Unfortunately my attendance at the Denver Tech Meetup on Thursday has had some unexpected side effects. Since dinner that night, I’ve been suffering from what I expect is food poisoning. It hasn’t been pleasant, and it ended up quashing my plans to attend BarCampBoulder (and just about everything else I had planned this weekend). My…

I used Crazy Egg to create before (v1) and after (v2) heatmaps of alexking.org. Unfortunately I didn’t take screenshots of the v1 heatmap and it turns out that the heatmap display uses the current live site as the background – not a saved screenshot along with the old test. This seriously hampers the usefulness of…
